We’re sure you’ll have seen a lot of news coverage in recent months about rising gas prices. Due to there being a global shortage of stored gas, wholesale gas prices have risen by 250% since late 2020. Whilst there’s a price cap on how much a household can be charged for its energy usage, utility bills have increased by an average of 18.8% for electricity and 28% for gas compared to this time last year.

How is this affecting households?

The rise in energy prices has been ongoing but the last few months have been particularly severe, with around 15 million households in the UK seeing their energy bills increase by 12% in October alone and leap even higher in November and December. With another price cap increase set for April 2022, it’s going to become even more expensive to keep your home at a comfortable temperature.

The role of double glazing

Did you know that an average 18% of heat loss occurs through windows? That’s why double glazing and modern uPVC window frames are so important, as heat loss through single glazing is twice as fast compared to double glazing.

To put this into perspective, here’s some information from the Energy Saving Trust:

By installing A-rated double glazing to windows in an entirely single-glazed semi-detached gas heated property, you could save £95 per year and 330kg of carbon dioxide. Meanwhile, if you replaced single glazing with A++ rated double glazed windows, the savings could be up to £115 per year and 405kg of carbon dioxide.

Stay warm with new windows and doors

If you’re looking to maximise the comfort of your home, reduce your energy bills and do your bit for the planet in the process, new windows and doors are an excellent investment.

By locking in as much of your home’s heat as possible, new doors and double glazing are a highly effective way of keeping a property warm even when it’s freezing outside. In the process, they also add an extra level of security to your home, reduce noise entering your living environments from outdoors, minimise condensation, and make your home look absolutely amazing.
